Facebook the leading social media platform with over 1 billion active monthly users has introduced reactions on its website and mobile application. Reactions are more buttons on the like button which allow you to express love, laughter, surprise, sadness or anger.

Not every moment you want to share is happy. Sometimes you want to share something sad or frustrating. With the new buttons, you will be able to express your emotion based on the post you are reacting to.

The Facebook community has been asking for a dislike button for years. Instead, the social media giant played smart and introduced a set of other buttons that people will use to express empathy and make it comfortable to share a wider range of emotions.

If people were allowed to tell friends they don’t like their posts, then Facebook would have lost many users and this would have been disastrous. This goes without saying that Facebook minds it user experience and would like to retain as many people as possible.

To use the new reactions buttons, press and hold the Like button and you will see them pop. Make sure your Facebook application is up to date to enjoy these new buttons.

Currency as we know it is that which makes us able to transact. If you want to buy a new phone, all you need is the amount of money equivalent to the cost of that phone. Many years ago people used to transact by trading stuff. Whatever you had was your currency and whatever the other party had was his currency. Today we are still using money to transact but money is no longer the main currency.

A lot has changed over the last two decades. The customer/client has gained an upper hand. He now has more choices. His decisions are not solely based on cost or pricing. He cares about what others think of your product/service or your business. The scales have tilted to his advantage. It is now hard to get new clients; it is even harder to retain your core clients. For your business to continue growing, you need to woo your audience in a different way. You need to use the new form of currency. And the new currency is VALUE.

When you provide value freely, you are giving your audience something even before they think of buying anything from you. Through this you create a special bond with them because you did not ask them to buy, you gave first. When you do this, your audience will stay with you for the longest time and they will influence others to come to you and each day will be profitable to you.

A relationship based on money does not last for long. A relationship based on value outlives the people running it.

Your Next Customer Is a Screen Away From You

As much as we don’t want to admit it, the screen has become an intermediary in most of our interactions. You are now reading this value bit via a screen. People these days are walking with their eye balls looking down on a screen, drivers are not looking on the road anymore; their faces are gazing on a small screen on their hands. If you don’t believe it, take a look at drivers in traffic jams on your way home today. Here at Lepoa we call it the “Look Down Syndrome”.

If that is the case, then wouldn’t it make sense to concentrate most of your marketing efforts on reaching your next customer through that screen? Reach through traditional advertising is going south by the day. People are not looking at billboards or posters anymore; instead they are on Whats app on their way to work and home. When a TV Ad comes during a break from that favorite TV show, guess where their eyeballs turn to? On their phones to check on their latest news feed on Facebook.

As much as the traditional ways of marketing and advertising still work, they are not as effective as they used to be. Why not then embrace new ways of marketing that guarantees you reaching your next customer in an instant.

Have you heard of the Generous Economy?

How generous are you? This might not be a question to expect from a digital market consultant. Generosity in this case means sharing knowledge and information that adds value to your audience. During the industrial age, being selfish with knowledge gave you leverage over others and made you stay ahead. As the Berlin wall fell in the 80’s, so did the industrial age and the rise of the information age. In this age, the more you share knowledge, the more people trust you and the more you stay ahead of the competition.

By sharing knowledge that adds value to your market, you build a relationship based on value. When people feel valued, they tend to draw closer to the people rendering them that value. This in effect will make them talk about you at every opportunity that arises. Be more generous today; go your way to do more. Make your company a generous company because this is a generous economy.
